The OMA Council is delighted to announce that the next Oceania Masters Championships will be held in Christchurch NZ, in January 2027.

A total of 733 masters athletes have entered the Championships, to be held over five days from September 6 to 10 at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre, the State’s premier athletics facility, at Nathan.

Athletes from Australia, New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Fiji, Samoa and New Caledonia, as well as international entrants from the UK, Ireland, USA, Iran, India and Sri Lanka, will compete in a full program of track and field events including sprints, hurdles, throws, jumps, distance races, race walking and cross country.

The Championships open on the morning of Saturday 6 September with the 10km race walk. The cross country will be held the following day over a course at the Sherwood Aboretum.

Competition at the Championships will be in five-year age groups, starting at the 30-34 years age group.

Masters athletics representatives from 22 countries have been invited to an Assembly Annual General Meeting of Oceania Masters Athletics (OMA) to be held in conjunction with the OMA Championships in Brisbane in September.

OMA’s 20 Member countries have been invited to send two delegates each. The Association’s two Associate Member countries also have been invited to each send a representative.

OMA’s Assembly Annual General Meeting exercises primary management and control of the Association. In between Assembly meetings an elected eight-person Council undertakes the running of the Association.

The Assembly consists of Council members, delegates of Member countries, representatives of Associate Member countries, representatives of Oceania Athletics Association and World Masters Athletics as well as OMA’s Life Members, Patron and Public Officer. Only Council members and delegates of Member countries have voting rights.

Notice of the Assembly Annual General Meeting has been sent to all Assembly members.

The meeting is set down for 4pm on Tuesday 9 September at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC) at Nathan in Brisbane.  The OMA 2025 Championships are being held at QSAC from 6 to 10 September.

OMA’s Member countries are: American Samoa, Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Norfolk Island, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. New Caledonia and Niue are Associate Members of OMA.

Oceania Masters Athletics is offering financial assistance to help facilitate attendance by masters athletes at the 2025 OMA Championships in Brisbane, Australia, from 6 to 10 September this year. 

The assistance is being offered to the 20 smaller OMA member countries, that is, countries other than Australia and New Zealand.

Countries are able to choose one of three assistance measures, and nominate the athletes in their country to whom the assistance will be provided. The assistance options are:

• Free registration ($90) and event entry for up to five events ($75) for three athletes.
• A payment of $500 to one athlete
• A payment of $250 to each of two athletes

The assistance will be provided by way of reimbursement.  In relation to Option 1, athletes nominated for assistance are required to register for the championships and pay the required registration and event entry fees.  Upon their attendance and participation in Brisbane, their registration and event entry fees will be reimbursed (up to $165). 

In relation to Options 2 and 3, athletes nominated for assistance will receive the payment applicable upon their attendance and participation in Brisbane.

Athletes must be nominated by the organisation representing masters athletes in their country.  Self-nomination by athletes will not be considered.

The 20 smaller OMA countries are American Samoa, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Norfolk Island, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

Queensland Masters Athletics (QMA) is offering a $10 temporary membership option to encourage local entries to the Oceania Masters Athletics (OMA) Championships being held in Brisbane in September.

This option also hopes to attract entries from the strong expatriate communities in Brisbane and south east Queensland, who are from some of the 22 OMA member countries in the Oceania region. These entrants will still be able to represent their home country at the Oceania Masters Championships event.

This $10 temporary membership will allow potential competitors living in Queensland to enter the championships without having to purchase a full QMA membership. As well as providing insurance cover for the 2025 Championships, the temporary membership will also include access to attend up to three (3) events of QMA’s 2025–26 Summer season.

Anyone living in Queensland aged 30 years and older, and interested in the $10 temporary QMA membership option can select this option through the online registration process for the Championships, which is located at https://emlsports.com/registration/oceania-masters-2025

Masters athletes are invited to register for the 5-day competition, along with Officials and Volunteers invited to register their interest to support the big event at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre from 6-10  September 2025.

We also invite para-athletes of a Masters aged (30 years and over) to register for competition, as this is the first time at an international Masters athletics championship that masters-aged para-athletes categories will be incorporated into the 5-day program.

Long-term supporters of Masters athletics events, EMLSports is on board handling registrations, making the process familiar to many, as well as easy and straightforward to choose your events and pay via credit card.

As registrations flow in up to 25 July when they close, EMLSports will publish the entrant list and athletes will see who else is travelling from affiliated clubs from 22 member countries across the Oceania–South Pacific region.

To register to compete, athletes must be a current financial member of an affiliated country’s Masters Association, and entrants must wear their approved National masters uniform during the competition.

Para-athletes aged 30 and over will have the opportunity to set State and National Masters Records, and create new Oceania standards.

No qualifications standards are required to be involved, the only requirement is for athletes to be registered with their National Masters Athletics body.

OMA President Cameron Burrows (AUS) states “the OMA Council is excited to be part of the ever growing inclusion and popularity of Para athletics by taking this step to include para-athlete categories in our Championships. We hope this encourages many more athletes from across the Oceania region to come to Brisbane in September”.

The championships were last held in Australia in 2019 in Mackay, where more than 700 athletes participated in a full program of Track and Field events over 9 days.

The 2025 Championships will be held from 6-10 September at the State Athletics Facility in Brisbane, which is part of the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC), the state’s premier athletics facility.

Masters athletes travelling from across the Oceania-Pacific region will compete in track and field events, as well as the out of stadia Cross Country. This is a great opportunity for our regional Masters athletes to wear their national uniform and represent their country with pride.

We are very excited that for the first time at an international Masters athletics championship, masters-aged para-athletes will compete in their classifications alongside other participants.  

With competition over five days (6-10 September), the 2025 championships are expected to attract big fields of Masters athletes ready to reconnect and compete with old friends. And in OMA tradition, athletes will make new life-long friendships from many countries across the Oceania-Pacific region.

Masters athletes registered with affiliated clubs from 22 member countries throughout the Oceania–South Pacific region are eligible to compete.

This is the first event under our new logo, which reflects the dynamic, athletic spirit of Oceania Masters Athletes: the ochre orange, turquoise and lime green colours in the new logo represents the natural landscapes of the Oceania region.
